Beijing Night Market

Beijing Night Market

After our action packed day in Beijing we went to meet a family friend for dinner. Stuart hadn’t seen him for 7 or so years after he came on a sort of exchange trip from the UK so we were looking forward to it. We headed to a well known Peking duck restaurant (I believe it was Quanjude Roast Duck Restaurant.) We were treated to a wonderful dinner of duck, vegetables, more duck and some chilli beef. The meal was… View Post

Beijing – Day 2

Beijing – Day 2

Catch up with the previous post – Beijing – Day 1 Firstly let me apologise for the huge delay between the last post and this one. It’s been a pretty manic since we came back from China. I was adjusting to a slightly different job role and the run up to Christmas. I just didn’t get the time to sit down and finish off the posts. But, here we go for Beijing day 2! I will start by saying this… View Post

Beijing – Day 1

Beijing – Day 1

After our short stay in Shanghai it was time to move on for our next adventure. We had an early start (6:30am!) before taking a taxi to the train station to catch the 8am high speed train to Beijing. Our experiences of trains in China were pretty good overall and I was amazed by their efficiency. We queued for a short while before joining the madness that is Chinese queuing to make our way down to the platform. We found… View Post

Shanghai – Day 2

Shanghai – Day 2

Check out our first day in Shanghai.    On to day 2. After a quick breakfast in the hotel it was off to the bus stop again, after picking the green line and helping some German tourists with the difference between their leaflet for one company and the fact they were standing at the stop for a different bus company we were on our way to the Jing’an Temple. The Jing’an Temple is a well known temple and has been… View Post

Shanghai – Day 1

Shanghai – Day 1

After a rest our Shanghai journey began. Our hotel was located close to the Yuyuan Gardens so we wandered down through some interesting shopping streets and into the Yuyuan Gardens area. It’s a warren of streets with restaurants and shops, a little on the touristy side but interesting nonetheless. We walked around absorbing the atmosphere, its was packed and I mean PACKED with tourists. We fought our way across the stone bridge across the lake/pond thing taking in the sights as… View Post

Departing for Shanghai China – Day 1

Departing for Shanghai China – Day 1

China day 1 began with a drive to the airport (about 2 hour drive) which went without too many hitches, left the car with Purple Parking, passed quickly through check in (as had checked in online), security and were in the departures lounge before we knew it. Time for some breakfast and a quick browse round the shops before we had killed the 3 hour wait and were off to the departure gate. This was the first time we had… View Post

We are back from our epic trip round China! It was a short trip but we packed it with lots and lots of sights and experiences! There will be tons of posts to come about everything we got up to along with some reviews of our “kit” and some of the hotels we stayed at. I had every intention of getting a post out pre-trip about what we were taking but ran out of time so it will be a… View Post

Today is the day!

So, today is the day we fly half way around the world to Shanghai in China. Something I have been waiting to do for about a year now so I am very excited! I was trying hard to get some posts up on what we are packing and taking with us but time has escaped me with work and packing etc so I apologise for that. Check back when we are home for a run down of what we took,… View Post

Apple Affair 2015

Apple Affair 2015

So, with China only a few weeks away it was time to do something to fill in the time. After the enjoyment of the Chilli Fiesta in August we signed up quickly for the Apple Affair at West Dean. We had high hopes of a day filled with apples and fun just like the Chilli Fiesta and it was fun and a nice day (read couple of hours) out but…..I wasn’t blown away. They could have taken it much further,… View Post

Looking Forward

Looking Forward

Looking forward to China So a bit quiet on the travelling front a the moment, not much to fill in the time between now and the end of October so I thought I would give a quick run down of our plans for our 2 week trip. The trip to China came about after I travelled there on a college trip to Beijing, I feel in love with the atmosphere of the place, so different to anywhere I have been… View Post

River Cottage Summer Fair & Golden Cap

River Cottage Summer Fair & Golden Cap

We are slightly River Cottage crazy and have now been to two events at the farm, brought 8 out of 15 handbooks, own 5 of his cookbooks and have watched nearly every episode of the shows. Slightly obsessed I know but nonetheless great experiences (and with Raspberry Vodka currently being made in a jar in the cupboard you can’t go wrong!) We booked to attend the Summer Fair back in June after missing the Spring Fair. Tickets were cheap and… View Post

Chilli Fiesta 2015

Chilli Fiesta 2015

Sorry for the delay – our internet is back! (YAY) Here’s the run down…I think the pictures do it more justice though. The West Dean Chilli Fiesta is a festival held once a year on the grounds of the West Dean College. It was the festival’s 20th anniversary this year so all the stops were pulled out, from chilli throwing competitions to cookery demonstrations and live music. It was a bright sunny day (read HOT) and we drove over to… View Post
