After spending a few days in Budapest the second part of our Hungarian adventure was about to start. We picked up a car and headed down the M1 to the Lake Balaton area. Lake Balaton is the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe (not the largest in Europe as Stuart had spent a large portion of his life thinking) and is beautiful. Its one of Hungary’s hot spots for holiday makers, we were early in the season so it hadn’t…

Memento Park (sometimes called Memorial Park) is based just outside of central Budapest on the side of a hill in a very unassuming place. Created in 1991 by Ákos Eleőd as a result of a competition the site contains many many statues, or parts of statues from Hungary’s communist period. “This park is about dictatorship. And at the same time, because it can be talked about, described, built, this park is about democracy. After all, only democracy is able to…

A change in my normal roundup’s of trips. I will come back to our time in Budapest but after 2 trips here is my list of 9 things to do in this wonderful city!!! (in no particular order!!) 1. St Stephens Basilica St Stephen’s catholic church is in the middle of Budapest that you kind of stumble across when walking around the city. The church is named in honour of the first king of Budapest, Stephen, who Hungarians do have…

So it’s been a while since my last post. We’ve been to Hungary and we’ve been to Plymouth, UK which means I’m a bit behind in my posts. I guess I’ve had a bit of writers block and a bit of being busy with being an adult! Stupid life getting in the way. While I do intend to catch up with a different post to normal for my Hungary coverage here is some pictures of said trip for the meantime.…

The sun’s out, I’ve only got one more day at work before a week off! It’s been a pretty taxing week in the UK. Reminds me that we should all be a bit kinder to each other. We are all citizens of the same world. Trump has been in Rome so here is a picture from the Vatican City a few years ago. Was pretty hot then too!!!

Back in 2013 we took a trip to Amsterdam to celebrate my birthday and I’ve been a bit obsessed with it ever since. It was the first city abroad that I could see myself living, full of canals, cheese, beer and history. What more could you want!? You can also see from the quality of the pictures that we have made some serious improvements to the camera kit over the last couple of years!!! We only had a couple of…

Catch up on days 1, 2 & 3! Our last day in the lakes was to be spent doing something neither of us had done before. We had previously tried and failed whilst in Canada so knew it was time. I am of course talking about the Honister Mine Via Ferrata. A via ferrata translates as iron road and originate from the alps. Simply put it is a steel cable which runs along a mountain route to allow climbers to clip…

After a lovely first day our second real day in the lakes also happened to be Easter Sunday. As expected it was raining which did scupper our plans slightly as we would have loved to have attempted to climb Scafell Pike (highest mountain in England.) It just wasn’t meant to be this time round, still, it’s a great reason to head northwards again in the future. After a leisurely breakfast we hopped in the car for the short drive to…

Our first day in the lakes began with a 7.5 hour drive from the south of England to the north. Top tip, it’s true what they say about traffic in the UK on a bank holiday, horrendous. Avoid at all costs. Still, we made it to our destination of Coniston late afternoon so had time to grab some supplies from the local shop and check into the cottage. The cottage was lovely – decorated in a country style. One bedroom…

As part of my Christmas present my in-laws got me a Gin Parlour Experience in London which involved drinking gin. Which everyone knows is one of my favourite activities. As it involved gin we needed to stay in London which meant we were going to make a weekend of it! I’ve written about our day at London Zoo so here is a round-up of the rest of our time. Given that gin was the order of the day I was…
